Platforms
EE124 Platform
We need a microcontroller platform.
- If it is 32bit, then we can use Labview
- If not, then we can't use Labview (32 bit requires lots of battery?)
- Memory size matters, this will dictate his choices.
I/O Requirements
- It needs to be able to drive 24 LEDs
- either 3 8 bit ports
- or 5 bits and decoding logic
- It needs to be able to produce Audio
- either a D/A
- 8 bits and and external code
- It needs to be able to read the accelerometer
- serial I/O
- or 3 A/D converters
Platforms
| Platform | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Comments |
| AD Blackfin board, with 537 add-on board | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Larry,Bharat - possible NI front end that does not work, yet Edward says they are to heavy for the wand. |
| ADUC 7220 | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Win - with the done wand demo, compact, marginal timer/counter, but low power and small - used last term by EE192) |
| ADUC 7026 | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Tho, with 40 digital I/O lines - holds promise, just need time to focus on it |
| Gumstix | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Bharat, Cal Robotics, Larry - PXA - new developments by Marvell? great platform - last year's results mixed, more concerted engineering approach this year |
| TI 430 | 8/16/32 | Flash | Ram | Audio | Serial | I/O | Boser - good toolset, small form factor, limited I/O |
| Robostix | 8bit | 128k flash | 4k SRAM/4k EEPROM | 2 Channel Audio | 4+ Serial | 16@5v, 10@3v | Bharat, Cal Robotics - hobby level |
| Atmel AVR | 8 or 32 | 16k Flash | 1k SRAM/512bytes EEPROM | Audio? | Serial? | up to 32pins | cxh - used by LED Shirt, 8/32 bits) |
