EE124 Platform

We need a microcontroller platform.

  • If it is 32bit, then we can use Labview
  • If not, then we can't use Labview (32 bit requires lots of battery?)
  • Memory size matters, this will dictate his choices.

I/O Requirements

  • It needs to be able to drive 24 LEDs
    • either 3 8 bit ports
    • or 5 bits and decoding logic
  • It needs to be able to produce Audio
    • either a D/A
    • 8 bits and and external code
  • It needs to be able to read the accelerometer
    • serial I/O
    • or 3 A/D converters

Platforms

Platform 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Comments
AD Blackfin board, with 537 add-on board 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Larry,Bharat - possible NI front end that does not work, yet Edward says they are to heavy for the wand.
ADUC 7220 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Win - with the done wand demo, compact, marginal timer/counter, but low power and small - used last term by EE192)
ADUC 7026 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Tho, with 40 digital I/O lines - holds promise, just need time to focus on it
Gumstix 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Bharat, Cal Robotics, Larry - PXA - new developments by Marvell? great platform - last year's results mixed, more concerted engineering approach this year
TI 430 8/16/32 Flash Ram Audio Serial I/O Boser - good toolset, small form factor, limited I/O
Robostix 8bit 128k flash 4k SRAM/4k EEPROM 2 Channel Audio 4+ Serial 16@5v, 10@3v Bharat, Cal Robotics - hobby level
Atmel AVR 8 or 32 16k Flash 1k SRAM/512bytes EEPROM Audio? Serial? up to 32pins cxh - used by LED Shirt, 8/32 bits)
