Using a NI USB-6009 data acquisition device, encoder feedback can be recorded in LabVIEW. This device is on-hand in the department, however it is limited to 48 KHz sampling. If the encoder signal is fed into the ctr0 pin on the device, the counter will precisely count encoder pulses, and transmits this value to LabVIEW on-demand.
The first attempt to measure the rate of the disc was noisy, perhaps due to the low sample rate. A more advanced data acquisition device (such as an NI PXI chassis) may resolve this issue.
