Clotho

Clotho is a toolset that lays the foundation for a design flow using standard biological parts. This tool includes multiple views of a design, a number of unique interfaces for part management, a complete algorithm development manager, and a plug-in system based on the Java Plug-In Framework (JPF).

CHESS researchers initially created Clotho as a project for the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition at MIT in 2008, where it received 1st place for software tools and was one of 16 teams (out of 84) to receive a gold medal overall. In addition, Clotho along with a domain specific language called Eugene and extensions to the Kepler actor library won 1st place for software tools again at iGEM in 2009.
