Notes for Presentations and Posters

Presentations

If you are giving a presentation, please note the following:
  • If you are giving a talk longer than 7 minutes, you may use the Chess Powerpoint Presentation Template, but it is not required that you use it.
  • If you are giving a 7 minute talk, you must use the Chess Powerpoint Presentation Template. 7 minute talks should be no longer than 5 slides.
  • Each time slot includes set up, presentation and questions.
  • To decrease set up time, it would help if all of the presentations were on our presentation laptops.
  • If you are giving a talk that is longer than 7 minutes, you are welcome to use your own laptop, though there will be the usual minor delay in switching between laptops.
  • However, all of the 7 minute student talks must be on the presentation laptop so as to ensure fast set up time.
  • We would like to make all the presentations available in a printed hand out and on the Chess website as 2up PDF files and as Powerpoint files. Let us know if this would be a problem.
  • If possible, please email your Powerpoint presentation to marys at eecs berkeley edu by 6am PST, Tuesday, November 15.
  • The printed handout will go to the printers on Wednesday, November 16th
If you do not make the Tuesday 6am deadline, then there is a good chance that the printed handout will not reflect your new materials.

Posters

If you are presenting a poster in the poster session, please note the following:
  • You may use the Powerpoint Poster Template, or the Alternate Powerpoint Poster Template, which are both for a single 40" wide x 30" high poster.
  • We would like to make all the posters themselves available in a printed hand out and on the Chess website as 2up PDF files and as Powerpoint files. Let us know if this would be a problem.
  • If you are presenting a poster and want your poster included in the hand out, please send an electronic copy of the poster by 6am PST, Tuesday, November 15 to marys at eecs berkeley edu.
  • In addition, you are responsible for printing your own poster. We will provide one easel and one posterboard (30"x40", which will take nine 8.5" x 11" pieces of paper). If you must have a second board, please mention this when you submit the electronic copy of your poster.

Technical Questions

If you have trouble with any of the templates, or questions regarding the preparation of your talk, please contact Jonathan Sprinkle (sprinkle@EECS.Berkeley.Edu).
